The "Greening" of Yonkers Tennis Center
The improvements that Yonkers Tennis Center made this past summer included converting to 100% renewable energy, waterless toilets and energy efficient hand dyers.
The club also regularly donates around 7,000 tennis balls a year and recycle old tennis racquets. This past season the club participated in the Soles4Souls program, and donated over 300 pairs of shoes to this charity for adults and children in need.
If you look around in Yonkers Tennis Center you’ll find recycling bins all over and all of their new furniture is made from recycled products. In addition, Yonkers Tennis Center uses green seal cleaning products, prints all communication on recycled stock paper and 90% of their marketing is delivered electronically.
Yonkers Tennis Center doesn’t just stop there, their next green project in the near future is researching photovoltaic panels for the roof with a start date of 2012-2013 season. Upcoming plans include replacing the lighting system, which will make them 30% more efficient. This is why all of these improvements to the club have made us the “Greenest Club in Westchester” and one of only 80 companies recognized to compete in the Westchester County Green Business Challenge.
