Yonkers Tennis Center Gets Financial Boost for Youth Programs

This past year the USTA has committed $2 million to contribute to 10 & Under Tennis. For those not familiar with 10 & Under Tennis, it uses smaller courts, bigger and softer tennis balls and child-sized racquets to ease kids into the basics of the game. The point of 10 & Under Tennis is to help kids develop good tennis skills and encourage early success.

The USTA decided over the next 3 years that Yonkers Tennis Center would be the perfect place to committ to. Over this period, the USTA will give $100,000 to spend on promoting 10 & Under Tennis.Yonkers Tennis is 1 of only 25 markets in the United States to promote 10 & Under Tennis.

The idea is to promote growth of 10 & Under Tennis in the Yonkers area. As Linda Mann of the USTA Eastern Section explains, "The main reason for this initiative is to grow the game of tennis, to get more young people playing the sport," said Mann. "And also, we're engaged with Michelle Obama's Let's Move" initiative to get children moving.
